Things I'll Miss About Dallas Part I

Spring Creek Natural Area.  It was my favorite place to walk Mia, and even thought the heat is making outdoor activities a little harder, it's still such a great park!
Plus it has little streams, where Mia first learned to swim.
Downtown Plano.  I've lived here for the last year, and really enjoyed this historic downtown area.  The restaurants are great and it's so charming.
Haggard Park, located right next to downtown Plano.  Perfect walk from my apartment, and it's a great place to sit and read a book.  They also have concerts and different activities at night!
And of course, Central Market.  I will miss wandering around the aisles gawking at all the amazing food.  I will miss the many cooking classes I've taken.  I will miss the quick meals I could pick up if I didn't feel like cooking.
And the desserts, this picture says it all.  I hope Arizona has a grocery store that can compete!

Coffee House Cafe - Dallas, TX

I love trying new restaurants, it's one of my favorite weekend activities.  I live a few miles away from downtown Dallas, so a lot of the great places to eat are a bit of a drive for me.  When I heard about Coffee House Cafe, which is in my neck of the woods, I had to try it out.  My friend Jill came along, and I think it's safe to say both of us were blown away.  We've been back a few times now, and continue to enjoy the menu!
We first tried brunch, although they do offer a delicious lunch and dinner, this is the perfect spot for a great brunch.  I ordered a french toast stuffed with egg and bacon special.  It even looks amazing!
Jill ordered chicken apple sausage hash.  I think this tops one of my favorite dishes here.  The combination is unexpected and great!
Don't forget the coffee!!  They have special flavors daily and put some an artistic mark in each one.  I LOVE this place, it's a must try for anyone in the Dallas area.  I will venture to say it's even worth the drive from downtown.

Have a great weekend!

Jorg's Cafe Vienna - Plano, Texas

A couple Friday's ago, Curtis and I decided to finally try Jorg's Cafe.  We had been hearing about it and walking by it for a few months, and it was more than overdue!  I have been to Germany a couple times and will say it definitely got a 5 star for German atmosphere.  You walk in from the streets of Plano, Texas to a German pub and in a matter of seconds it seems you've traveled across the ocean.
It was right about then that we got real into it and ordered a few German beers.  Heavy steins and all.
At the request of C, who complains that I order way too much food and don't finish any of it, we decided to order a few things and share, and it was the perfect amount.  We started by sharing Jorg's sampler, which was about 4 different kinds of sausage with sauerkraut and some awesome mustard for dipping.
We split the Award winning chicken Schnitzel with Mutti's Jager sauce, which was a grilled mushroom cream sauce, and boy was it good.  I wasn't in the mood for pork and am not a huge fan of veal, but was very excited to see they had chicken on the menu.  The waitress gave us her approval, so that's what we went with, and I was very happy we did!
The meal came with two pieces of chicken, and although thin it was enough for us to split.  It also came with sweet red cabbage and spatzle (egg noodles.)  We cleaned our plates.
Luckily we saved room for dessert... and lucky is the key word.  We ordered the Scheiter Haufen, which is a bread souffle that came with a hot rum creme sauce. Oh. My. God.  It was the best part of the meal, hands down.  We again asked the waitress what her favorite dessert was and she said this one without hesitation, and I was so glad we listened.

Overall, I really enjoyed eating here.  The food was authentic and very tasty, and the service was great.  It's a little pricey, so I think the next time we go we'll be splitting dinner again, but all the same it's worth trying!

I'm not going to kill this one...

Confession: I cannot keep an orchid alive.  C has now bought me three different ones, and although the first one had a pretty good run, the last two have bitten the dust pretty fast.  I thought for sure the last one was dead so I took it into Gunter's Orchids in Dallas to get some advice.  The fate of my orchid is still up in the air, but I wanted to show some pictures of the flowers that were at Gunter's because they were so beautiful.

Have a great weekend everyone!
